Event description

Description

On 26th January 1788 the First Fleet landed in Botany Bay, Australia. Among the convicts were two from Wigan, Mary Smith and Henry Taylor, both sentenced at Wigan Magistrates Court to ‘Seven Years Transportation to Some Parts Beyond The Seas’.
Australia Day, 26th January, is the day when Australians commemorate the birth of their nation.
Good to know that Wigan played its part.
This Australia Day, Lawrence Hoy celebrates the CD launch of his album, "Beyond The Seas" a musical tribute to Australia’s first settlers, back where it all began, at the former Wigan Magistrates Court, now The Old Courts.
Lawrence will be supported by Pauline Blackburn and the duo Steve Higgins & Gerry Kennedy.

Entry is free - but please bring a donation to ‘The Joan Blackburn fund for disabled access at The Old Courts’.
