Abstract

There is considerable interest in narrative analysis in International Relations and Political Communication as well as cognate disciplines. This session will outline one approach to doing narrative research - strategic narrative - outlining the opportunities and challenges of such an approach, before opening up for a wider discussion on narrative methods.

Biography

Professor Alister Miskimmon is Head of the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast. His research is primarily in the areas of strategic narratives, German, European and global security issues and European integration. He is author of a number of books including, with Ben O'Loughlin and Laura Roselle, Strategic Narratives: Communication Power and the New World Order, New York: Routledge, 2013 and Forging the World: Strategic Narratives in International Relations, University of Michigan Press, 2017.
