Description

We would like to invite you to Doing Things Differently for Care Leavers in Greater Manchester, an event to showcase the work that is taking place in Greater Manchester to support care leavers. The event will be held on Friday, 1 November 2019 from 11:30-16:00 at University of Manchester’s University Place.

Hosted by the GMCA’s Greater Manchester Care Leavers Trust Board, the event will give you the chance to learn what Greater Manchester is doing as part of its Care Leavers Guarantee and Core Offer, which aims to better prepare young people leaving the care system for adulthood and independence.

The event will showcase examples of local and national best practice and encourage organisations from the public, private and voluntary sector to discuss and engage with the development and delivery of the core offer for care leavers in the city-region.

You’ll hear from a variety of speakers including Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Paul Marshall, Director of Children’s Services at Manchester City Council and Cllr David Jones, Leader of Bury Council and Chair of the GM Care Leavers Trust Board, as well as Care Leavers and a Care Leaver Covenant Ambassador.

You will have the opportunity to choose two breakout sessions, each focused on different areas of best practice. When registering, please select which sessions you would like to attend. Spaces are limited. The sessions are:

• Providing sustainable housing
• Using social value to create better opportunities
• Widening participation in further and higher education
• Pathways to employment
• Volunteer mentoring

There will also be a market place with dedicated time for networking to find out what organisations are doing to support young people leaving care.

Registration and lunch will be from 11:30, with a prompt 12:30 start.

Please book your ticket by Thursday, 24 October 2019.
