Event description

Description

Please note that prior to attending the training participants will preferably have had the opportunity to shadow an experienced colleague and will need to have read the MCA Code of Practice: Chapter 2 (Statutory Principles); Chapter 4 (Capacity) pages 40 – 45 and Chapter 5 (Best Interests) which is available on-line.

The Mental Capacity Act allows restraint and restrictions to be used – but only if they are in a person's best interests. Extra safeguards are needed if the restrictions and restraint used will deprive a person of their liberty. These are called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. This training course aimed at increasing knowledge of frontline professionals and for those who will be working as IMCAs during the initial DoLS assessment process and as Relevant Persons Representatives whilst a DoLS is in force.

The course will include: policies and procedures relating to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, an overview of case law, the role of the Managing Authority and Supervisory body; assessment and authorisation processes; application of conditions; reporting; challenging, and the role of the IMCA during the assessment process.

CLOVERLEAF CONNECT

Who are we?

Cloverleaf Connect are the training arm of Cloverleaf Advocacy.

We provide high quality advocacy services to people with mental health needs, learning disabilities, older people, people with physical and sensory impairment, and carers. We provide advocacy support to people in local communities, supported living, hospitals, secure mental health units and residential homes.

Advocacy is all about helping people to control their own lives. We support people to:

  • make their own decisions
  • have their voices heard and rights respected
  • achieve their own goals
  • express their views
  • represent themselves and get the help they need.

We also support self-advocacy groups to be involved in shaping health & social care.

We believe in involving people who access health and social care services, and professionals learning from people who use services.

We provide a range of training in advocacy skills and knowledge. We are a registered City and Guilds Centre for delivering a range of health and social care qualifications including the Independent Advocacy qualifications.

We are experienced partners in consultation and research with people who access health and social care services.
