About this Event

This extensive training for Domestic Abuse advocates will explore a variety of issues faced by many survivors of domestic violence within the faith-based Community. The overall aim of the training, as a whole, is to guide participants through a process of raising awareness, broadening perspective, inviting reflection, sparking commitment, and generating new responses at the individual practitioner and agency levels.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

This training will:

Describe the impact of domestic violence and other lifetime trauma in the lives of people within the faith communities

Examine the particular issues survivors face when dealing with both domestic violence and their Faith

Explore the need for collaboration between domestic violence advocates, Faith leaders, and community leaders.

Identify barriers to collaboration, and introduce strategies for addressing the barriers to collaboration.

Practical tools and recommendations for victims and survivors of violence and abuse within the faith communities.

Introduction to Trauma Theory and its Implication for Advocacy including a framework for incorporating Trauma and Social Justice perspectives and critical issues for Faith Response and independent living needs of the survivors

The next steps will involve a practical discussion encouraging the participants to think about how to ensure that all survivors of domestic violence have access to the resources they need. This will be done by answering a few questions and making some commitments
