Share Domestic Abuse and Impact on Mental Health

Event Details

This one day training event will equip you with the awareness and best practice methods needed to work with victims experiencing domestic abuse. 

Domestic abuse covers a wide range of complex issues and individual and social impact. 

This course will include a live case study – a testimonial from a person with lived experience of domestic abuse. 

We would like to forewarn delegates that this course does cover sensitive material which may trigger an emotional response.

 

Who is this course for?

Frontline staff and managers working with clients experiencing/experienced or at risk of domestic abuse.

This course will:

  • Identify types of Abuse
  • Define Domestic Abuse and understanding its prevalence
  • Understand trauma and the impact on the mental health of victims
  • Discuss why people remain in abusive relationships and what barriers to exit they face
  • Describe how to conduct effective risk assessments and support victims with multiple needs
  • Explore worries and concerns victims may have around domestic abuse and agency involvement
  • Discuss best practice in supporting non-abusing parents and their children
  • Discuss the multi-agency arrangements for risk assessment and support such as MARAC, the role of the IDVA/ISVA and also other forms of assessments such as CAF/CAADA
  • Explain the criminal and civil remedies available for victims including enforcement options and how to apply them including the use of Non-Molestation and Occupancy Orders
  • Recognise the barriers that particular groups (including LGBT/teenage/male victims) experiencing domestic abuse face and how to support victims from these groups effectively
  • Assess the rights and needs of domestic abuse clients in relation to tenancies, welfare benefits and associated court processes
  • Explore the impact of domestic abuse on the mental health of victims and children
