DOMESTIC ABUSE AWARENESS & MARAC

About this Event

This course is designed for practitioners who would like to understand the dynamics of domestic abuse and improve the service they provide to victims/survivors. The course will examine the myths and realities of domestic abuse including considering why people stay in abusive relationships. Attending the course will help practitioners recognise indicators of domestic abuse, practice asking about domestic abuse and effectively provide support to those who have disclosed abuse. The course will end with an overview of understanding risk, safety planning options for victims/survivors and detailed information on specialist support in Waltham Forest

Objectives/Learning Outcomes

By attending this course, participants will:

• Understand how domestic abuse is defined, what it includes and how its prevalence

• Analyse their own beliefs about domestic abuse

• Appreciate and examine the barriers faced by victims/survivors in leaving an abusive relationship

• Ask the right questions and response appropriately to disclosures of domestic abuse

• Undertake basic safety planning and risk assessment

• Have gained knowledge of Waltham Forest’s services and be able to refer appropriately
