This course is part of the Halton Safeguarding Adults Board (HSAB) multi-agency training offer.

About this Event

Aims:

Domestic abuse can take place in any familial or close relationship situations and may involve people who care for others or those who are being cared for.

Abusive behaviour may or may not be physical in its nature but may include such aspects as intimidation, coercion and control, isolation, or sexual or finance abuse.

This awareness training will equip participants with an understanding of what constitutes domestic abuse, people’s vulnerabilities to domestic abuse and action which can be taken.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session attendees to this training will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse for adults at risk including:

o Definition of safeguarding and what is meant by ‘adult at risk’

o Definition of domestic abuse and understanding of this type of adult abuse type within the Care Act

• Understand domestic abuse for older adults and adults who are being cared for, whether this is by someone paid, unpaid or a family member

• Recognise signs and symptoms and indicators of domestic abuse / potential abuse

• Respond appropriately when a potential risk of harm has been identified

• Know the requirements and process of how to make a referral or safeguarding alert

• Understand national policy, guidance and legislative framework, including the Care Act

Target Audience:

Delegates can be from any background or profession as HSAB hope to raise awareness across the whole community aiming to help protect people who may be at risk of harm.

Delivery method and details:

This is a half-day learning session which involves group discussion, participatory exercises and interactive activity.

It is expected that the knowledge and skills gained will be taken away and embedded into practice. The learner’s organisation will be accountable for measuring competence following training.

There is no preparatory learning associated with this course however participants may wish to undertake the Safeguarding Adult Awareness e-learning module for background knowledge or as an alternative learning option. Learners are expected to refresh their knowledge and understanding of adults safeguarding at least every three years.
