What is this training ?

This training is designed for service providers in the Glasgow area such as social work, health workers, NHS staff, housing, third sector organisations, and community and support workers, who wish to learn more about domestic abuse. We discuss many aspects of Domestic Abuse, from it's route cause in societal gender inequality, to how you can spot the signs of domestic abuse when it's affecting children and young people. It is vital that service providers work together to tackle domestic abuse, and receive appropriate training and practical steps to support women, young people and children living with domestic abuse.

We would love to see you in person, but at this time we think the best way for as many people as possible to access our training would be for it to take place online via Teams. A link for which will be sent to participants closer to the time of the training.

Please enter your work email when registering and provide as much information as you see fit. We like our training sessions to be small and personable so our trainees get the most out of our them, so we have a limited number of spaces available. If you can no longer attend the event, please cancel your order to open the space for another attendee. If you miss out this time or cannot make this particular session, we aim to hold this training once a month, so keep your eyes peeled for next time!

  8. Awareness Education and Prevention Training

Glasgow East Women's Aid aim to increase societal understanding of gender-based violence to reduce violence and abuse experienced by women and children. We also provide training around early intervention and prevention to early learning practitioners and education institutions, and can offer other tailored gender-based violence training for businesses and organisations.

The Scottish Government reported that in 2020-21, the police recorded 65,251 incidents of domestic abuse, up once again from the previous year. This is only for recorded incidents - many go unreported. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, but 82% of domestic abuse victims last year were women; this is why domestic abuse must be seen as a form of gender-based violence, and this is the analysis we take to tackle the domestic abuse problem here at GEWA.

Pre-COVID-19, local Women's Aids and schools provided a safe space for women and children away from the abuser. While COVID-19 has not caused domestic violence, it has exacerbated the levels of domestic abuse experienced. With lockdown restrictions and many people working from home, this has meant women and children are trapped in the home with the abuser; we still do not yet understanding the gravity of the impact on those suffering domestic abuse situations. Many services, including Glasgow East Women's Aid have adapted to the situation and continue to provide support remotely. We will do everything in our power to support women as we always have in the future, and we would love for you to be a part of that support network.

Although this session is primarily for those working as service providers, we do also welcome those who live and work in the Glasgow area who are simply interested in learning more about domestic abuse and gender based violence.

Please email our training provider at hannah.fletcher@gewa.org.uk for any more information about this training session, or for more information about our services.
