“Domestic Abuse: new legislation”

Guest Chair: Sheriff Kathrine Mackie

Guest Speakers:
Clare Connelly, Faculty of Advocates/University of Glasgow
Dr Marsha Scott, Chief Executive, Scottish Women’s Aid

The Scottish Government's radical new Domestic Abuse Bill includes, for example, a proposed new statutory offence to recognise non-physical abuse. Proponents argue that it will help prosecutors and the police to hold abusers to account by recognising also their non-physical coercive and controlling behaviour. Critics of the Bill, on the other hand, worry about the scope and implications of the Bill in practice.

Join us for this informative and lively evening, led by speakers with a long-standing and deep commitment to the problem of domestic abuse. Listen to the information and arguments and then have your chance to put your questions and points forward.

SASO members and non-members alike are welcome. Solicitors, Advocates, Police and Social Workers and other professions may claim up to 1.5 hrs CPD time for attendance - registration at the event is required.

Suggested contribution towards cost of event £5 (£1 student/unwaged)

Refreshments available from 6.15 pm Event commences at 6.30 pm
