Event description

Description

Donna / Femme / Frau / Mujer: Women Artists and Activists is a one-day event organised by staff at the School of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Royal Holloway, University of London.

This event is intended as an exploratory celebration of international women's art and activism that will at the same time investigate the links between aesthetics and politics. It will ask: (how) can art change the world? Its focus in particular is on women's voices in French, German, Italian, and Spanish-speaking contexts.

The day will begin at 10am with a guided visit to the Suffrage exhibition in the Emily Wilding Davison Building at Royal Holloway, University of London, and after lunch (provided) involve workshops led by staff from the School of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

Guest speakers will include writer Olumide Popoola, who will introduce participants to the work of Afro-German poet and activist May Ayim in a creative-writing workshop, as well as the renowned thinker, writer, and activist Lynne Segal, who will deliver a talk at 5pm (please register separately for this talk here).

All welcome but registration is essential as places are limited.
