Event description
An Evening of New Music

About this event

Join us for an evening of new music featuring world and UK premières by Nicola LeFanu , Kristina Arakelyan, Anna Appleby, Joanna Ward and Lucas Jordan.

The center piece of the programme is The Moth-Ghost, a dramatic scene for soprano and piano by Nicola LeFanu specially commissioned for this concert. It sets a poem written by James Harpur. Thetis, a sea-goddess of Greek mythology, knew that however she might try to protect her son Achilles, he must die eventually. In the poem, she is a grief-stricken mother, mourning his death in the Trojan war. He has died young where she, an immortal, will live forever, haunted by her memories.

The concert will also present pieces especially written for this performance by Kristina Arakelyan and Joanna Ward, as well as world and UK première performances of by Anna Appleby and Lucas Jordan.

Gabriella Di Laccio soprano | Clelia Iruzun piano | Lucas Jordan flute

Join the composers and performers for drinks after the performance.

This concert is supported by the PRS Foundation The Open Fund for organisations.

ABOUT DONNE, WOMEN IN MUSIC

Donne is a charitable foundation that is here to make a positive change in the fight against gender inequality within the music industry. Our main goal is to celebrate, advance, and amplify women in music so that they are seen, heard, and appreciated for their talent so they can leave a legacy of inspiration for future generations.

We do that by creating supportive material to educate and transform the future of equality in music, e.g. educational videos, specially curated playlists, recording more music by women, podcast series, funding new commissions by women, organising concert series & free online events. Our BIG LIST of women composers, has over 5,000 names (!) and counting... Connect with us and help us to raise awareness:

Donne relies on the generosity of corporate donors, the music industry and the public at large. These important programs aiming to support women in the music business, create more opportunities and engage audiences worldwide would not exist without the help of donors. If you or your organisation is able to donate to this important cause, please do – it’s very much appreciated. Thank you.
