Britain faces significant challenges in the decades to come: climate change, pandemics, automation and emerging technologies, and the resumption of great power conflict. Our expert panel will discuss why short-termist politics is leaving us vulnerable to these risks, and what we can do to prepare for them. Our panellists include Associate Editor at the Financial Times Stephen Bush, shadow Paymaster General Fleur Anderson MP, former Welsh environment minister Jane Davidson, Director of the Centre for Long-Term resilience Sophie Dannreuther and catastrophic risk researcher Luke Kemp.

The COVID-19 pandemic, and our current energy crisis, show how costly it can be to be caught off-guard. Similarly, we know we are not doing enough to avert and prepare for the impacts of climate change. By acting early, we can stop potential crises before they happen and bolster the resilience of our systems across health, energy, cyber, and key supply chains.

It is a challenge that Labour for the Long Term (a new network of Labour members who want to see the Labour movement do more to tackle extreme threats) wants to meet head on. We believe the next Labour government has the opportunity and responsibility to better protect the British people - both current and future citizens, our grandchildren and their grandchildren to come.
