Don't trash it! Refashion it! Upcycling workshop with David A Mumford
Sun 4 June 2017, 11:00 – 17:00 BST
Creative Upcycling for Beginners and Intermediates
This workshop will inspire you to get stitching and revamp your wardrobe, why throw things away when you can turn what you already have into something exciting and original. When people ask you, ooh where did you get that? You can say I MADE IT!
Beginners will learn the basic operations of a sewing machine and create at the same time.
Intermediates will advance the skills they have already learnt.
The class is taught by David A Mumford - a creative and skilled fashion designer and maker. David began designing and making clothes in the early 80's. Most recently (2004 - 2013) he was one of the designers of the pioneering upcycling clothing brand 'Junky Styling'. He now runs own brand D.A.M specialising in upcycled garments and accessories available off the peg or to commission (and on sale in Fabrications shop!) as well as offering educational workshops.
A selection of d-a-m samples will be available to follow, these will vary from simple through to more complex, so there will be something for everyone, Guys and Girls.
On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:
- Understand the basic functions of a sewing machine
- Know how to use differenet stitch types
- Use simple deconstruction & reconstruction techniques
- How to apply different trims & other customisation techniques.
- Dip into fashion styling
- Look at old clothes in a whole new way!
YOU WILL REQUIRE: Bring along 2 men's shirts
