A design talk from Kris Andrew Small about his design process and talking through some of his past and current projects. Perfect for aspiring designers, students or people who need give their design practice a shake up.
Whilst at Art School or studying traditional Graphic Design, there are often so many rules and our practice can become governed by the grid.
But Kris says to hell with the grid.
Sydney Based Artist & Designer Kris Andrew Small’s idiosyncratic collection of work ranges from lucid abstract pieces & photo based collage, to fervent textural pieces and kinetic type based works. Kris’ work is hard to define and often the result of multiple influences. “I guess a lot of my work comes from my childhood, growing up in the 90s in a tropical part of Australia was pretty colourful and flamboyant, that has always really stuck in my brain.” These early influences are clear across Kris’ portfolio and help to connect the dots and to define his energetic aesthetic.

Organiser of 'Don't Use The Grid': Design talk by Kris Andrew Small
Blue Shop Cottage is owned and run by Ocki Magill who renovated the space in 2016. It now welcomes local artist, local businesses and musicians to get involved and bring the creative and local communities together under one roof.
In the past the shop has been a bookshop, a hairdresser and a fashion store. The aim is to create a vibrant space for the local Camberwell and Peckham community. A flower shop one week and a candle-lit gig venue another.
