Join us as we explore and learn about sustainable practices in the heart of Glasgow's West End. Come along for an in-person tour of the Eco-Hub and GUEST gardens on the University of Glasgow, Gilmorehill campus. Meet our tour guide at the Eco-Hub in the Boyd Orr Building and then take a ten minute stroll to the Viewfield Lane gardens, all while enjoying the surroundings and discussing the value of sustainability.
What is the Eco-Hub?
The Eco-Hub is a space dedicated to sustainability. The project is coordinated by GUEST (Glasgow University Environmental Sustainability Team) and the UofG's Sustainability Team. The aim of the Eco-Hub is to offer services that benefit both people and the planet. Primarily a social café space, the Hub offers free and low-cost second-hand items to the community. Homeware and stationery are also free for students all year round. Clothing is free to swap or just £1-£2.50 per item, coffee and tea are just 50p a cup, houseplants can be swapped at any time, and these services are available to everyone. The Eco-Hub is also a space for connection and works as a meeting point for staff, students and the wider community to come together to discuss and build a more sustainable world.
What is GUEST?
Glasgow University Environmental Sustainability Team (GUEST) is a team of highly motivated student interns employed by the university to improve sustainability on campus. Aiming to promote environmentalism, climate action and social justice through their actions. The team consists of 12 students working on a part-time basis across biodiversity, food and waste, transport, staff and student engagement, community engagement and sustainable labortories. GUEST manage the Viewfield Lane gardens which will be visited during this tour.
Event Information:
The tour will begin in Room 206 on Level 2 of the Boyd Orr Building. You can find directions here. There is an accesible entrance to the Eco-Hub via University Gardens and the James McCune Smith Learning Hub for those who need it. This event will require walking for approximately 10 mins to Viewfield Lane Gardens. Upon entrance to the gardens, there is also steps.
