About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Explore Adam Smith's Panmure House in the heart of Edinburgh for Doors Open Days 2025.

Panmure House is the final remaining home of Adam Smith, philosopher and 'father of modern economics.' Not normally open to the public, this is a chance to tour this historical House.

Stand in the very room where Smith completed his final editions of An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations and catch a glimpse of our Smith Library Restoration.

Visitors will have the chance to explore the House at their own pace and appreciate the comprehensive restoration that has revived it to its original charm, reflecting the era when Smith resided here, while seamlessly incorporating modern amenities.

For the first time during Doors Open Days weekend, a selection of artifacts uncovered during the restoration of Panmure House will be on display. Some date back to the early 18th century, offering a unique glimpse into the lives of Adam Smith and the House’s former residents.

You will also get to view a first edition of The Wealth of Nations.

Join us for this free self-guided tour between 10:00-15:00. (Doors Open at 10:00. Last admittance 14:30).

This event page is for entry on Saturday 27 September.
