About this event

Community • City & Town

Since Spring 2025 Scottish artist Thomas Abercromby has spent time on the Isle of Bute exploring island gardens, meeting gardeners and working closely with a local group, We Are With You.

This exhibition results from his research and takes the form of a new multisensory installation. Blending real-life testimonies with poetic fiction, sound pieces are paired with distinct scents forming a sensory narrative of healing and resilience. Within his work the garden becomes not only a setting but a central metaphor: an active site of recovery, memory, and social imagination.

This slow tour will give visitors the time to listen to the soundscapes, as well as experiencing the companion scents and engage in conversations around scent, memory and gardens. Aligning with the Doors Open Day themes for 2025, it will allow participants to reflect on gardens past, while looking to the future in considering artists creating works beyond tangible objects.
