Event description
Timed entry to visit Dorich House Museum, the former studio home of the sculptor Dora Gordine and her husband the Hon. Richard Hare

About this Event

Kingston University’s Dorich House Museum reopens to the public on 2 October 2020 after an extended period of closure due to Covid-19.

To keep our staff, students and visitors safe we will be operating a little differently over the coming months, limiting our general public open days and dedicating other days of the week to activities with students and local communities.

How to visit

The Museum will be free of charge, but you will need to book a timed slot before you visit. Slots are available on Fridays and Saturdays for a one-hour visit, starting at 11:00, 12:30, 14:00 & 15:30 each day.

What we ask of you in line with current government Tier 2 guidance:

• You must bring a face covering to wear at all times during your visit, unless you are exempt

• You must maintain a safe two-metre distance from everyone at all times, unless they are members of your own household or support bubble.

• Stay at home if you are feeling unwell

Our commitment to our visitors

• We are limiting visitor numbers to aid social distancing

• Our staff and volunteers will be wearing face coverings

• We are leaving the windows in our building open for ventilation

• We have installed sanitisation points at the entrance and around the building

• We have introduced an enhanced cleaning regime using an antiviral product

• We have trained our staff to manage your visit in a safe and friendly manner

• We have amended our exhibition displays and visitor experience to reduce contact points

• We will be keeping your booking details for 21 days after your visit for NHS Test & Trace

• Our onsite free car and bike parking allow you to travel independently to the Museum

Group visits

We can accommodate group bookings for KU staff & students, local schools and community groups. If you would like to arrange a group visit, please contact us directly at dorichhousemuseum@kingston.ac.uk or call us on 020 8417 5515.

FAQs

Can I visit without booking a timed slot?

You must book a timed slot in advance to guarantee your entry and provide us with the required contact details for NHS Test & Trace.

Do Kingston University students & staff need to book timed slots?

If you would like to visit on a Friday or Saturday, you will need to book a timed slot.

If you would like to arrange a group visit for your students or peers, please contact us directly at dorichhousemuseum@kingston.ac.uk or call us on 020 8417 5515.

How many people can I book for?

You can book for up to six people, but only if you are members of the same household or support bubble.

How many people will be visiting at the same time

On public open days there will be a maximum of six people per timed visit.

What if I am running late?

Timed visits are for one hour. You can arrive any time within that hour but you will be asked to leave at the end of the timed slot to allow for cleaning before the next timed slot.

I have booked a timed slot and I’m now unable to visit. What shall I do?

If you, or anyone in your group is feeling unwell or has been in contact with someone with symptoms of Covid-19 please do not visit. You can cancel your booking by emailing dorichhousemuseum@kingston.ac.uk or by logging into your Eventbrite account.

What facilities will be open?

There are toilets available onsite. Our shop is open. We are taking card payments only. Our café remains temporarily closed but we aim to reopen as soon as possible.

Is there somewhere to store my bike during a visit?

We have bike racks adjacent to the Museum available for parking your bike while visiting, and these are also being cleaned each morning.

Are you taking commercial and private bookings?

We are not taking bookings at this time. Please email dorichhousemuseum@kingston.ac.uk for more information about commercial and private hire of the museum spaces.

Please note, the Museum is located over four floors. There are 78 steps to the top floor, which is accessed via a narrow staircase. The Museum currently has no wheelchair accessible toilets. We apologise that we are unable to offer full access for all physical abilities at this time. Kingston University is working to improve access for all visitors. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions in advance of your visit.
