Event description
A 6.5 or 12 mile walk to Gomshall from Dorking.

About this Event

Join North Downs Way Ambassador Michael Vergien on a free 5 or 7 hour walk that will take us along some of the best views that the North Downs Way has to offer. We will learn about the natural and human history of the area including: the geology of the area, plants and animals as well as Roman and military history. Participants may choose to take the 14:04 train back to Dorking from the Gomshall station (6.5 miles) or head back on foot along the valley below the North Downs (12 miles). Either way, we will have lunch at the Gomshall Mill before getting back to Dorking. For those of you who walk back, we will end with a pint at Cobbett's.

Start: Meet us on the South side of St Martins Church (RH4 1DW) in Dorking at 9:00.

Finish: You will be back in Dorking between 14:15 (if you take the train back) or 15:30 (if you choose to walk back).

Walk Level: This is a moderate walk as there will be some climbs and descents on our walk.

Equipment: You will need sturdy footwear and a water bottle. Some parts of the walk can get muddy and slick depending on weather. I suggest bringing a snack along to tide you over until we get to the pub for lunch.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Children: 6.5-12 miles makes this walk unsuitable for young children. Participants must be 14 and older. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Travel: It is a 15 minute walk from Dorking Main Station and there is a car park just North of St Martins at the end of Mill Ln. This car park has two sections, one is short stay and the other is long stay; make sure you park in the correct area.
