Dorset Business Angels Pitch Presentation Event - November 2018
Event Information
Description
Join us for networking from 5.30pm in the Causerie Suite, enjoy refreshments and canapes whilst meeting and catching up with fellow investors, DBA sponsors and the DBA team. The pitch presentations will start at 6.15pm with an introduction from our Chairman, Don McQueen.
We have 5 carefully selected companies seeking investment, each will make a 15 minute pitch, after which there is time for Q&A. Then, expressions of interest from Angel Investors are registered for further action. Once the pitch presentations are finished, those staying for dinner, will enjoy a 2 course private meal with wine and a chance to start new conversations and continue those started earlier in the evening.
Ian Harlock-Smith and Mark Kilbey of Saffery Champness Chartered Accountants will be discussing some of the pitfalls/challenges they have experienced in relation to investors and businesses using the Enterprise Investment Scheme (“EIS”) and providing a recap of the changes that were made to EIS following the 2017 Autumn Budget.
The 5 pitches are confirmed as....

Re-Cycled Sustainable Products
This Company offers brand owners, retailers and packaging manufacturers a solution to the problems created by plastic waste. It is developing a process to manufacture green, mono-material packaging containers using moulded fibre treated with bio-degradable coatings and is backed by strong IP. Significant developments have taken place since the first production scale prototype was made with the help of an EU grant in 2014. Proof of concept studies have been completed for soft drinks bottles and caps and the third generation production machine is in development. Management now seek £500K to complete the development program and increase the marketing resource.
Ski Catering Convenience Food
This business set out to revolutionise the ski holiday eating experience by supplying top quality cuisine both to ski operators and the self-catering skiing community in the French Alps. They have exclusive distribution contracts with household names of frozen and ready-meals and are able to deliver daily to all major French resorts. The business is now scaling up rapidly and the Directors seek £500K to move to a larger HQ in France, expand their sales and delivery teams and commence manufacturing their own brand products.
Chocolate Company
Today, there is a growing market for top-quality confectionary products. The Company founders decided that they would take the chocolate bars they enjoyed as children and reimagine them for adults. The products are all hand-made with excellent ingredients, thereby creating a range of impulse chocolate products that are more suited to the refined adult palate. In revenue since 2011, turnover is now circa of £1.9M and the products have attracted several blue chip customers as well as a growing export portfolio. The Company has now reached full capacity at its current production unit and needs to move to larger premises to cope with the increased manufacturing volume. The founders are seeking £900K to establish the new site and install new plant and equipment.
Wellbeing Solutions for Communities
This Company aims to make physical activity a way of life through expertly delivered, measurable campaigns, with long-term community benefits. Being active not only improves a person’s health and well-being, it also saves public money and improves our environment. With inactivity being the fourth leading cause of death globally, according to current WHO statistics, there is considerable scope for the Co to scale up its operations, both nationally and internationally. FAQs
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (as amended 2005) investors must "self-certify" by meeting simple criteria as "high net worth" or "sophisticated" investors. Therefore any investor should read and sign the documentation linked on our About page on our website, either a High Net a worth Investor Certificate or a Sophisticated Investor Certificate, as is appropriate.
We also wish to point out that companies or individuals seeking investment through the Dorset Business Angels must ensure that the information presented to potential investors is neither inaccurate or misleading. They are, accordingly, similarly advised to seek guidance from someone authorised under the Act.
