Dorset Global Health Network: Focus on Africa

Body Team 12

Directed by David Darg

Body Team 12 is a short documentary film about the Red Cross team who collected dead bodies during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. A poignant and moving film unveiling the practical realities and ethical challenges of managing the largest and most complex outbreak of Ebola infection since the virus was discovered in 1976.


Poole-Africa Link

Dr Frankie Dorman & Mrs Hilary Fenton-Harris

Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust developed links with Wau hospital in South Sudan in 2009, and more recently in Lira, Northern Uganda. Frankie and Hilary were in Uganda in October and will update us on their most recent trip, ongoing work and future plans.


Developing postgraduate links between Bournemouth University and Lira, Uganda

Professor Paul Thompson

Paul is a retired consultant rheumatologist at Poole Hospital and past director of the Centre of Postgraduate Medical Research and Education (CoPMRE) at Bournemouth University (BU) where he is Visiting Professor. He is a Trustee of Poole Africa Link and has just returned from a second visit to Lira, northern Uganda where he is building links with the new Lira University (LU). BULU, which means ‘youth’ aims to foster international collaboration between the universities in research, education and practice to the mutual benefit of both institutions and countries.​


A personal experience of short term volunteering in Africa, and opportunities for others to get involved.

Dr Chris Playfair

Chris has a wealth of experience volunteering in South Africa, Cambodia, Brazil, Zimbabwe & Sierra Leone and Ethiopia, and is currently a mentor for young doctors on the Improving Global Health through Leadership Development programme. Chris will be sharing his experiences and observations of key health needs, and happy to take questions on how others can get involved.
