Event description
Theologian and author Doug Gay reflects on the season of Advent

About this Event

Advent as a season forms part of a liturgical rhythm that moves people through the time of their lives. Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor draws a contrast between the rhythms, seasons and festivals of the Christian year and what Walter Benjamin called the “flat, empty, homogenous time” of days passing. Glasgow- based theologian and Kirk minister Doug Gay reflects on what it is about Advent that might bring movement, texture and lightening to our lives, thinking both about what its form might say to non-religious people who are interested in religious traditions and about how its form and content can shape Christian spirituality even in the darkest of times.
