About this event

We are delighted to be hosting the launch of Sin Bin Island, the debut children’s novel by Red Dwarf co-creator and writer Doug Naylor. Bringing Doug’s trademark humour and narrative wit, Sin Bin Island is a classic adventure story perfect for fans of MG Leonard and David Baddiel.

Doug will be in conversation with the award-winning author SF Said as they discuss the enduring appeal of writing funny stories for TV and now for children, the origins of Sin Bin Island and what he’s learnt along the way.

Doug Naylor is a British Emmy-award-winning television writer, Sunday Times bestselling novelist, and an award-winning TV director. He is best known as the co-creator (with Rob Grant) of the iconic sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf for which he wrote or co-wrote all 74 episodes. He was one of the two Head Writers at Spitting Image during the series heyday and co-penned the number one single The Chicken Song, for which he is not forgiven. He is also the author or co-author of three best-selling Red Dwarf novels.  Sin Bin Island is his first children’s novel.

SF Said's first book, Varjak Paw, won the Nestlé Smarties Prize for Children's Literature, and was listed by BookTrust as one of the 100 best children's books of the past 100 years. The sequel, The Outlaw Varjak Paw, won the BBC Blue Peter Book Of The Year. His third book, Phoenix, represented the UK on the IBBY International Honour Book List, was shortlisted for the Guardian Children's Fiction Award, and nominated for the Carnegie and Kate Greenaway medals. Like Tyger, all three books were illustrated by Dave McKean and published by David Fickling Books.

Please note: Book and ticket option includes a copy of Sin Bin Island (RRP. £7.99) available for collection on the night.
