Doulas and Social Workers-How We Work Together
Overview
End of life doulas often find themselves alongside a wide range of professionals when supporting someone who is dying, including social workers. This session explores how end of life doulas can confidently and appropriately position themselves within larger multi-disciplinary teams, and how to build constructive, collaborative relationships that benefit clients.
Led by a registered social worker, the session will unpack the role of social workers, the contexts in which they operate, and the points at which doulas and social workers may overlap or diverge in their approaches. We will look at the complex situations in which you are most likely to work alongside social workers and consider what each profession brings to the broader network of support.
Through a mix of small-group and whole-group discussion, presentation, and a scenario-based exercise, we will reflect on the realities of multi-disciplinary working and how to navigate the system surrounding those we support.
Whether you are newly trained or have years of experience, this workshop offers a fresh perspective on collaboration, clarity of role and the collective effort required to improve outcomes for people at end of life and those important to them.
