Event description

Description

** Sorry, this event is fully-booked. There are places on the waiting list.

Down Street was a 1907 Leslie Green - designed station on the Piccadilly line between Hyde Park Corner and Green Park (formerly Dover Street), until it closed permanently in 1932. Pay careful attention between these two stations and you can notice as your carriage passes its boarded up platforms. It is one of the Underground's best known 'ghost' stations and probably the most sought-after to visit. There is a ton of World War 2 history attached to the station and our guide has asked we leave it there to avoid spoilers!

Our guide is veteran Tube historian and author David Leboff, whose books include a biography of Leslie Green himself.

Only 10 places. Strictly London Historians Members only.

Sorry, but you'll need to be able to manage quite a bit of stairs. Sensible shoes for the purpose, please.

Proceeds to the Railway Children charity which supports orphans in India who literally live in stations and on the rail network.
