About this event

Arts • Fine Art

Explore how émigré illustrators from central Europe—among them Susan Einzig, Jan Pienkowski, Bettina Ehrlich, Walter Trier, Jan LeWitt, and George Him—reshaped British children’s literature in the mid-20th century. Dr Schlenker will consider how these artists, many based in Hampstead, infused British children’s publishing with new visual languages, emotional depth, and a distinct sensitivity born of displacement.

Doors and bar open: 6.30pm

Curator's talk begins: 7pm
