Description

We have great pleasure in inviting you to our next meeting

The Fifth Annual Professor Peter Gilbert Memorial Lecture

To be held at the Roman Catholic Church of St Aloysius

20 Phoenix Rd, Kings Cross, London NW1 1TA

Mysticism, Mental Health and Spirituality

Dr. Williams will be speaking about issues in mental health, especially those affecting the most vulnerable. He will link this to spirituality and the part it plays in consolidating community and providing support and hope for the sufferer. Finally he will incorporate mental health and spirituality with mysticism and the way it reaches parts of our experience, the depth of our being and the outer most fringes of faith which have not been reached before.

Dr. Rowan Williams obtained his doctorate at Christ Church and Wadham College Oxford. After ordination at Ely Cathedral he served as Honorary Assistant Priest at St George's Chesterton, and was appointed to a University lectureship in Divinity. In 1984 he was elected a Fellow and Dean of Clare College. At age 36, it was back to Oxford as Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity for six years, following which Rowan Williams became Bishop of Monmouth, and in 2000, Archbishop of Wales.

In 2002, he became the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury from which he retired on the 31 December 2012 to take up the position of Master of Magdalene College Cambridge. Later in 2013, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of South Wales and was made a life peer, becoming Lord Williams of Oystermouth, in the City and County of Swansea. Dr Williams is a noted poet and translator of poetry, and, apart from Welsh, speaks or reads nine other languages. He has written widely on theological, historical and political themes.

NB. If in financial difficulty, we may have seats which can be offered. Please email us to discuss.
