He studied physics up to PhD level, then used his knowledge and experience to forge a career that has included being the first person in the UK to be hit by a taser gun; running for Parliament in the 2010 General Election; appearing in a regular slot on BBC 6Music; featuring in a Channel 4 documentary alongside Stephen Hawking, watching a fight break out at one of his talks and getting followed by a spook at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
