Event description

Description

Emptyset (artists Paul Purgas and James Ginzburg) present an ambitious new commission at the intersection between architecture, sound and performance.

Responding to the space of the DRAF studio, the event will present an entirely acoustic performance, incorporating constructed architectural elements and industrially manufactured materials, and using compositional aspects of micro-tonality, percussion and voice.

The performance is centred on two large-scale instruments realised over the course of three weeks in the space and developed from acoustic surveys of the building. The two-part programme will include new compositions by the duo accompanied by a vocal quartet.

The commission represents the fifth performance residency in DRAF Studio, a dedicated space for live works unique in London. It follows projects by Edward Thomasson, Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings, Augustas Serapinas and Jacopo Miliani, who have employed theatre, dance, sculptural installation and music into their performative responses to the space.

This project is curated and produced at DRAF by Sandra Pusterhofer, with Alex Roberts.

Thanks to Georgia Rodgers and Max Fordham LLP for their in kind support.

DRAF Studio is supported by Arts Council England and DRAF Galleries Circle.

About DRAF Studio

Since its foundation, DRAF has been committed to performance and education at the centre of its programme. In 2015, DRAF Studio opened as a dedicated space for live projects.
