SEPTEMBER'S THEME - Writing your outline or reoutlining. At some point you are just going to have to get the beats of your story / collection / memoir down. And we avoid this because we don't want to commit. But outlining is a bit like finding a religion to rebeal against. You need to look at the causal relationships between your scenes, the conflicts between your characters and how they grow and if you feel resistance - then pull back, rethink, reoutline. It's an art and a skill that feels painful but once you exercise that muscle I promise you'll learn to enjoy it!

Workshop designed and facilitated by award winning author, poet and playwright, Carmen Marcus, author of HOW SAINTS DIE, Vintage and winner of the FABER NEW PLAY AWARD 2023. Her writing takes us on magical real journeys through mythic landscapes.

See you there!

Hey! I'm a writer of poetry, fiction and plays. I live in the North East of England. I write about paracosms - imagined worlds where trauma can be resolved, these can be magical real stories of wolves of the sea or a poem about meditating on a train. I come from a working class oral storytelling tradition. Dad was a Yorkshire fisherman. Mum was an Irish chef. So I blend the practical and the magical together. I'm a highly experienced teacher, community artist and mentor and I want to support people to tell their stories their way.
