Drakelow Tunnels Open Day!
Saturday 4th May
We are opening the Drakelow Tunnels museum and welcoming visitors to come on a guided tour inside the museum and see some of the ongoing renovation works. We have two types of tours available. The first being a guided tour of the museum and the second being a "Guided Discovery Tour" which is a like for like tour but includes additional information and WW2 and Cold War footage is shown via a projector along the route of the tour.
Tour times:
10.00am - Guided Tour
12.00pm - Guided Discovery Tour
All sales go straight into the renovation works and help preserve WW2 and Cold War history for future generations to come. There is an option to donate via the ticket options on Eventbrite and also have a donations box on site so any spare change you have, we would be extremely grateful for.
Some of the key areas we are working on:
- WWII Shadow Factory Area
- 1960s / 1980s Government Offices
- BT Communications Hub / Server Room
- BBC Studio / Producers Room
- Generator Hall / Switch Board Room
- And more...
If you have been to previous tours, hopefully you will see something different this time round.
Tour duration will be approximately 1 hour depending on number of questions asked.
Please try and arrive ten minutes before your tour time. Our car park gates are locked once the tour starts.
Due to the continued renovations, we are not allowing children under the age of 10 to attend due to health and safety (when we open fully this will no longer apply).
PLEASE NOTE: There is now a strict no visitor photography or filming rule. Please do not bring recording devices. All mobile phones must be switched off before entering.
You will be reminded of this before you enter the bunker, anyone seen taking pictures or filming will be asked to leave.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Unfortunately at this time we are unable to support wheelchair access in the museum due to ongoing construction work within the tunnels. However, when the museum is completed we will be able to accommodate wheelchair access.
