The Arts and Education Network: South East Wales presents a FREE masterclass, for teachers of GCSE and A Level Drama and Theatre. The day will provide delegates with fresh strategies for teaching Drama and Theatre, focusing on improvisation, devising and re-imagining text.
Through a day of hands-on practical sessions you will learn tips and techniques that can be applied directly in the classroom. The content has been devised inline with the challenges teachers report around the curriculum and as a way of teachers reinvigorating their teaching approaches.
Richard Tunley, advisor and examiner for the WJEC will give context to the day’s activity, which will focus on improvisation, devising and re-imagining text. Tin Shed Theatre Company and drama educator Francesca Pickard will take delegates through a series of exercises devised to support the teaching of GCSE and A Level Drama and Theatre.
At the end of the day you will have a number of practical ideas and resources to take back to the classroom with you.
We regret that this masterclass is only open to teachers and drama practitioners, working with young people, who live and/or work in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport or Torfaen.
To help teachers take advantage of this opportunity the Arts and Education Network: South East Wales can contribute £100 towards the cost of supply cover. Please contact us for more information.
Tin Shed Theatre Company are Justin Cliffe, Georgina Harris and Peter Farago, two theatre makers and a visual and audio artist, based in Newport. Inspired by the strange and the wonderful, they tell stories that are driven by their characters, and make highly physical theatre that blends classic iconography with neon light. They love storytelling and the unpredictable energy and experience of the live event.
They say that they want to introduce themselves to strangers, be bold and brave, amaze with a tale and transport audiences to a place that, although it remains detached from the literal, can still enlighten our perceptions of the real world. The work they make is as varied as the things that inspire it. Exploring empty buildings, transforming spaces, and filling theatres and studios with new, devised work, as well as exciting re-imaginings, inspired by existing texts.
Originally from Cwmbran, Rich Tunley trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Rich worked for many years as a Drama teacher heading departments in four schools and colleges in London and in Wales. He is very well respected in the field of Drama Education and is a chief examiner for A Level Drama with the Welsh Joint Education Committee. His lecturing/directing experience includes Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and Trinity St. David, Carmarthen. He is currently the Head of Acting for Simply Theatre Academy an International performance arts school in Geneva and Zurich.
