Performative Drawing Workshops with Ram Samocha
In these workshops, participants will be introduced to performative drawing as a dynamic art form that combines drawing with time, movement, and presence. Ram Samocha will guide participants through a series of exercises that encourage experimentation with both traditional and unconventional tools, materials, and surfaces.
The sessions will explore:
- Drawing as performance - how the act of making becomes part of the artwork.
- Movement and gesture - using the body as a tool to create marks.
- Layering and erasure - building complex drawings through repetition, covering, and transformation.
- Sound and rhythm - integrating auditory elements into the drawing process.
- Collaboration and dialogue - sharing space, responding to one another’s marks, and exploring collective creation.
Participants will have opportunities to create both individual works and group pieces, experiencing how performative drawing can exist as both a process and a result. Each workshop will close with a reflection and group discussion about the experience and the different possibilities this practice opens up for creating art in real time.
All materials will be provided, and no previous experience is necessary — just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
