Event description
Learn the 'basics' in four different museums over four weeks in June, with artist Marcia Teusink (Saturdays 1-4pm on June 6, 13, 20 & 27)

About this Event

This four-week short course offers a chance to learn or review foundation skills in observational drawing, inspired by some of London's amazing collections of art and objects. We'll meet at a different collection each week, including the British Museum, the V&A, the Wallace Collection and the Grant Museum of Zoology (UCL). The course will cover different aspects of drawing each week, beginning with gesture and mark making, measurement and proportion, then building tone, creating a sense of texture and more. Each week builds carefully on the previous one, so that after the four sessions you should feel confident sitting down and drawing on your own. We will look at historical and contemporary drawings for inspiration too.

This course is perfect for total beginners and drawers with more experience who want to revisit the basics. If drawing in a public place sounds intimidating, don't let that stop you as most people find it surprisingly easy once you start. Class size is limited to 8 students, and a great deal of individual attention is given. Marcia has taught drawing in museums repeatedly over the last 25 years and always finds it incredibly inspiring. She will bring all the materials needed each week, so you can just show up and get started. The museums we visit all have free entry.
