Celebrate new artworks produced by local artists as part of Rabbits Road Press’ Drawing on Heritage: Postcards Commission.

Four local artists, Maryam Haq, Amandine Forest-Aguié, Jo Wood and Maryam Adam, spent the summer exploring different aspects of Newham’s heritage and experimenting at Rabbits Road Press to produce new designs for a set of Risograph printed postcards. The commission was inspired by the work of local self-taught artist Madge Gill (1882-1961) who produced many ink drawings on postcards.

The commissioned artists were invited to see a range of Madge Gill’s postcards at Newham Archives and Local Studies Library. They drew inspiration from materials in the archive, the Arts and Crafts movement and personal explorations of Newham’s heritage to produce their designs. The event celebrates the completion of the commission and an opportunity for people to take away a postcard. Postcards will also be distributed for free through libraries in Newham.
