Drawing Projects UK is pleased to present this half-day Drawing Session led by Andy Bannister on Friday 24 January 2020 from 1pm to 4pm in The Chainstore at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London.
During this half-day Drawing Session you will explore ideas around drawing for sculpture and how to develop working drawings. Led by Andy Bannister who was awarded the Working Drawing Award in the TRinity Buoy Wharf Darwing Prize 2018.
This Drawing Session is suitable for adults of all levels of experience in drawing and sculpture. Basic materials will be provided, but please bring any special materials you would like to draw with.
Andy Bannister lives and works in London. He studied fine art at Nottingham Polytechnic and Chelsea College of Art. Shortly after he graduated his work was selected for the 1993 BT New Contemporaries exhibition and included in the influential ‘Institute of Cultural Anxiety’ exhibition at the ICA, London in 1994. Since then he has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. Working in higher education since 1993, he teaches on the BA and MA fine art programmes at City & Guilds of London Art School.
His current practice investigates the impact of science and technology on culture and society during the second half of the twentieth century and through to the present day. An ongoing series of highly detailed pencil drawings- including the works Fermi/Chicago '42, Montebello '52 and ROC Post '64- involves the careful reworking of photographs that record developments within atomic science and which relate to the threat of nuclear war; in meticulously recreating and modifying these images, he reflects on their latent meanings and on the material form of the artefacts that they depict.
This Drawing Session is part of an events and engagement programme accompanying the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019 exhibition while it is on show at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London from 18 January to 1 February 2020. The exhibition is open daily from 11am to 4pm and is free to see.

Organiser of Drawing Session: Drawing for Sculpture with Andy Bannister
Drawing Projects UK was created in 2009 to develop and promote research initiatives in drawing, including the Jerwood Drawing Prize project, now known as the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. In 2015, a centre for drawing and contemporary art at Bridge House in Trowbridge, Wiltshire was established and the remit of Drawing Projects UK expanded to form a drawing network and community through a range of complementary activities. With a project space, exhibition space, workspaces for artists, designers, creative and cultural enterprises, bookable meeting rooms and cafe, Drawing Projects UK is a unique creative and cultural hub, and is conveniently located adjacent to Trowbridge railway station.
