Drawing to Cloth: Free-Form Textile Figurines with Marine One

By The Bomb Factory Art Foundation

Overview

Join resident artist Marine One for a free, hands-on workshop exploring how drawings can become sewn, sculptural objects.

Participants will begin by making a series of abstract sketches, then select one to translate into a small textile figurine using intuitive, free-style sewing techniques that move away from traditional patterns and templates. Using fabrics, ribbons, buttons and found materials, you will construct a soft sculpture directly from your drawing, working through cutting, layering and stitching.

No sewing experience is necessary. The session prioritises experimentation rather than technical perfection. You will leave with a one-of-a-kind handmade piece, and the workshop will conclude with a group look at how each drawing has evolved into its stitched form.

An ideal December afternoon activity if you would like to make something personal as a seasonal gift.

This workshop forms part of The Bomb Factory’s Learning and Participation programme, which creates space for art and culture to thrive by inspiring people from all backgrounds to make and experience art.
