About the Event
Sudan’s youth have always been at the heart of change whether in the streets, in classrooms, in art, and in conversations that shape our future. This evening brings together Sudanese youth from different regions and backgrounds to share their lived experiences, hopes, and visions for the country.
Are you a young person from Sudan, or someone in the diaspora who wants to connect with their Sudani identity? Are you a Sudan ally wanting to stand in solidarity? Are you excited by the prospect of engaging in conversation, and listening, to promote the causes of 'freedom, peace, and justice' in Sudan, and among the community in the UK? Do you remember the kinds of conversations you were able to have in haboba's hosh, or in the rakuba? Do you want to have these sorts of conversations in London? This event is for you - your voice (and ears!) are welcome.
This event marks the launch of the revised second edition of The Children’s Drawings; a powerful collection of artwork created by displaced Sudanese children, produced by Waging Peace. These drawings speak across borders, carrying stories of loss, resilience, and imagination, with calls for justice and accountability.
We will open with a performance inspired by one of these drawings, followed by Sudan’s Youth - In Conversation, with original poetry and a 'moment for the martyrs'. The evening requests us all to orient towards listening, interactive dialogue and honest conversation.
The evening will close with your engagement and a chance to 'take the talk with you' (شيل معاك الكلام) including over light refreshments immediately following. We invite the audience to continue the conversations started, decontructing barriers and expanding the vision for Sudan beyond war, beyond separateness, where values of equity and eqality, freedom and peace, openness and cultural preservation are celebrated.
