A rare opportunity to have a tour of the Drax Power Station, we will be meeting in the Visitor Car Park from 4:30pm onwards for the tour to start at 5pm.
The agenda for the afternoon tour is for the tour to last between 2-2.5 hours and include:-
Welcome & safety brief
Introduction to Drax Power Station in the visitor centre.
Step on/off bus tour looking at peripheral equipment needed for large scale electricity generation, including biomass storage & handling, recycling, environmental mitigation, and water systems i.e. cooling towers.
Generation walking tour, including mill bay, boiler house, turbine hall, finishing in the control room.
Refreshments will be available at the Drax Social Club after the tour.
That numbers for the tour are strictly limited to 35 people so if you book and find that you are unable to make it please do cancel your booking via Eventbrite so your place can be passed on.
The tour will require physical stamina as there will be walking and climbing to a height of 23 feet/7 metres, up staircases with safety rails. The Drax team have asked to be made aware if anyone will be attending who will struggle with this.
The have also specified the following:
1. That sensible and sturdy shoes are worn with full foot coverage, no heels including wedges.
2. Long sleeved garments and trousers are worn
3. That PPE (supplied) is worn at all times unless instructed otherwise.
Paul Binns will be waiting in the visitor car park to welcome you before everyone moves on to the tour start in the visitor centre.
If you are able to offer a lift share, or hope to find one, why not pop a post on the CIBSE Yorkshire Facebook page?
