The CIPD Scotland team would like to invite you to the next ‘Knowledge into PracticeNetwork event exploring how employee wellbeing makes a pivotal impact in people and development. Evidence from Professor David Guest who developed the concept of the Psychological contract says that should be our focus not performance. Data from CIPD’s UK Working Lives survey shows that wellbeing is the biggest factor in explaining job quality. In a world of work full of change and challenge these findings are very significant.

This Knowledge into Practice event will introduce you to the ongoing research and insight in the onerous work environment of the offshore oil and gas sector. A demanding and difficult environment at the best of times, the oil and gas recession disrupted the traditional work contract and instituted a new shift system.

A survey of remote workers was undertaken in early 2018 by Robert Gordon University, focusing on areas of work-life balance, wellbeing, and health and safety to determine how these were affected by changes to the working rota which, for some employees, entailed an extension of one week to a two week working rota. The findings provide insight into how employee wellbeing is maintained in these circumstances, and also the aspects of work employees perceive as being important in their working lives.

The findings give real insight into how employee wellbeing is maintained in these circumstances but also gives clear insights into what aspects of work employees perceive as important in their working lives.

Please come along and listen to Anne Stevenson, Academic Team Lead at Robert Gordon University and David Gibbons-Wood, Director of the Centre for International Labour Market Studies present the outcomes of the research, and contribute to the discussions.

Sponsored by Edinburgh Napier University and the CIPD South East Scotland Branch, the event is targeted at practitioners, policy makers and academics interested in sharing views and perspectives.
