Change is different for every business. Everybody views change in different ways, some see it as an opportunity, others feel threatened, change is inevitable…in life and in business, how you react to change is pivotal to your success.
Ruscha Fields has faced change on many fronts, both professional and personal. As the second generation of a family business that operates across a number of sectors including corporate contracts, events and retail, change is inevitable.
Cambridge Plants was established over 30 years ago by Elisabeth and Richard Funnell, with over 3 decades of growth and development the business had been through a number changes, but 2014/5 saw Cambridge Plants face its biggest change to date…with the stepping down of both Richard and Elisabeth, a change of leadership.
Ruscha shares the passion of Elisabeth and Richard, she admired the success they had achieved, but she could also see that there were unfulfilled opportunities, ways to improve and develop Cambridge Plants. Having moved her family to Harston from London in order to develop the business, she wanted to ensure she made a success of it.
There were things that the existing business had always done…why would you want to change that?
However the question remained, how to be current…up-to-date and relevant in a changing business environment, how to re-ignite sales that had been fairly flat for a number of years and how to work creatively, exploring new areas of business.
Managing this transition, delivering change, communicating and reassuring the team at Cambridge Plants that these were changes for the better, things that would improve the business, provide employment and expand everyone’s horizons required a delicate mix of people skills, professional knowledge and personal drive.
We are thrilled to have Ruscha joining us at Drive Cambridge on Friday 3rd February, to share what she’s learnt as she has faced change head on, the successes and the learning that has seen the business go from strength to strength. The meeting will be held at the Allia Future Business Centre, Kings Hedges, Cambridge from 8.30-11am. Tickets are available from www.drivethenetwork.com/cambridge
