Drops of Heaven delves into the world of food and life, through an examination of the 'soup of life,' a soup made by culinary artist Yoshiko Tatsumi as an essential daily source of comfort and peace.
Kawamura's documentary looks at slow food in relation with nurturing love. Weaving together Japanese landscapes with cooking and healthy eating, it offers a unique insight into Japanese home-cooking and the importance of cooking in our lives. Tatsumi's legendary soup has been the inspiration to cooks in hospitals across Japan, and is still a source of legend and curiosity.
This screening is a collaboration between the Japan Foundation and the Royal Society of Arts, in the historic Durham Street Auditorium. This is work done in celebration of the RSA's involvement in the Osaka Expo, in anticipation of the upcoming Culinary Conversation with Chef Masaki Sugisaki.
Seats are not reserved, so come early to grab the best spot. Screening starts at 7:30pm in the Durham Street Auditorium. Our Muse Bar will be open from 4pm for a drink beforehand.

Yoshiko Tatsumi is a Japanese Culinary Artist / Writer. She was born in Kanagawa Prefecture on December 1st 1924. Her mother was the pioneer of home cooking expert Hamako Tatsumi. With a deep love and the understanding of life and nature, her thoughts toward cooking are frequently sprinkled with philosophical images of nurturing love and living in peace. Author of over 40 books. 2010 NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) Broadcasting and Culture Award Winner.
Atsunori Kawamura is a Japanese film director / Journalist / Writer. He was born in Aichi Prefecture on January 27th, 1948. Joined NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) as a documentary director in 1971. He has directed and produced a number of award winning social influential documentaries in the field of inner psychology, environment, contemporary history, religion, art, and science. His theatrical debut was in 2012, with documentary film Drops of Heaven.
