In this workshop, we will discuss how the common mood disorders are treated using prescription medications.
About this event
Many people accessing counselling and psychotherapy are also taking or considering taking prescription drugs for their condition. This workshop is designed to give practitioners some basic knowledge about these drugs, to give a context for the client’s experience. This should also enable you to access accurate information about treatments a client is taking, and attend to their risk.
Workshop Content:
The content will include:
- The different classes of antidepressants and anxiolytic drugs, and the names of commonly used drugs within each class
- An overview of how different drugs work
- The benefits and main side-effects of taking these drugs
- Possible effects on the therapeutic process
- Common problems that people experience in starting and stopping taking these drugs
- Where to find reliable information about those drugs, and how to interpret that information The style of the session will be discursive, aiming to accommodate participants’ specific requirements and questions.
