Drugs, Alcohol and Mental Health

This course is an introduction to drugs, alcohol and mental health and how they affect each other. The course encourages participation and sharing of lived experiences.

We will:

• Discuss attitudes to substance use and mental health
• Recognise life factors increasing the risk of dependency
• Understand how dependency changes the brain
• Understand how dependency seems to help and the long term consequences
• Recognise the stages of change
• Consider the affect on families
• Develop a toolkit for handling cravings
• Discuss experiences of substance use on mental wellbeing
