Event description
Drumming for Dementia - Practitioner Course

About this Event

Over two days we will explore how drumming can help people with a dementia.

Through hands on learning we will look at the evidence base for including music and drumming in particular in an activities agenda.

We will introduce you to the model of practice we have used over the past few years to help maintain rhythmic communication with people with a dementia as words and language become more fragile.

All the exercises and ideas in this workshop will help further your understanding of how to apply drumming in your area of work. This could be with people with a dementia in a group. home setting, or as an activities coordinator. It could also be just with your own family member.

No prior knowledge or experience of drumming required - nor do you need any musical expertise. We are all drummers at heart.

The course takes place on the beautiful Isle of Wight, recently awarded UNESCO Biosphere Status and recommended by the Guardian as the best location for an alternative holiday in the UK.

It is facilitated by Dr Kim Brown who is a Rhythm2recovery practitioner.

You will be delighted at the engagement shown by those with a dementia. Smiles, laughter, dancing and singing are very evident during our sessions.

Come and join us and lets make drumming a mainstream activity.

There is a great opportunity to create your own hoop drum prior to the course on the 19th March - if you are interested then please email us. Places are limited to just four people. This session will take place with Dragon Isle Drums.
