About this event
Booking for all of our Learning for Leisure courses is via our Eventbrite pages. If you are no longer able to attend a course, we may be able to refund the course cost up to 7 days before the course start date. We will retain up to 10% of the payment to cover costs incurred by us.
We reserve the right for refunds to be issued by cheque.
An opportunity to have a go at dry stone walling in a safe, friendly environment. If you find you enjoy it the tutor will tell you how can take it further.

Approximate course length:
3hours / 1 morning
This course is for:
Those with little or no experience of dry stone walling who want to gain the basic knowledge and skills to repair dry stone walls. You will learn the basics of how to take down a damaged section of dry stone wall and how to rebuild it.
You will learn:
The course will cover:
• How to work safely
• The basic principles of dry stone walling
• How to take down (stripping out) a derelict or damaged section of wall
• How to rebuild a dry stone wall to a good standard.
You will be given the support you require for your individual development. Your tutor will give you feedback during the course and you will be able to self-assess.
There are no exams or formal assessments. There will be plenty of chances to ask questions and put what you have learned into practice.
Work outside of sessions:
This is not required, though we hope you will want to put what you have learned into practice.
Additional costs and what to prepare:
This course involves being outside. Please wear appropriate footwear such as steel toe capped boots and clothing appropriate for the weather. Other personal protective equipment (e.g. gloves and googles) will be supplied.
How to access your course:
An email with instructions for how to find the venue will be sent within 3 working days of the start date of the course.
Progression from this course:
You may wish to progress onto the Lantra Level 1 Certificate in Dry Stone Walling. Discuss your next steps with your tutor or centre staff.

Course fees explained
Some of our courses are free of charge. Others have a full fee and a lower ‘concessions’ rate for those on certain benefits. This may vary from course to course so please ask when enquiring about a particular course. For many of our learning for leisure courses we use three different fee bands:
Fee A: Full fee
Fee B: Derbyshire Gold cards holders
Fee C: Concessions for those on certain benefits/allowances – details are on our How to fund your learning page.
There may be additional costs on some courses for materials please ask for details.
If selecting one of the reduced rates, you will be asked to show proof of entitlement when attending course.
Booking:
A booking fee is charged by Eventbrite for each booking, this is retained by Eventbrite and included in the advertised fee. Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service receive the course fee.
