Festive Bird Drypoint Printmaking Workshop with Ellie James Printmaker

Join local artist and printmaker Ellie for a special festive-themed drypoint printmaking workshop. Whether you’re continuing from a previous session or brand new to printmaking, this workshop is suitable for beginners and those curious to try something creative and seasonal.

In this workshop, you’ll explore the expressive process of drypoint printmaking while creating a beautiful festive print, perfect to give as a handmade gift or to display at home to bring some extra joy to the season. You'll be guided through every step of the process, with a focus on creating a multi-coloured drypoint print.

Choose to print a festive robin, other seasonal wildlife, or work from your own inspiration to develop a winter-themed design with charm and character.

What we will cover:

  • A refresher/introduction to the drypoint printmaking technique
  • Exploring festive themes such as robins, woodland animals, and winter scenes
  • Using a la poupée inking method to apply multiple colours to one print
  • Experimenting with mark-making
  • Inking, wiping, and printing your final image using an etching press
  • Producing a seasonal piece to treasure or gift

Inspiration & Materials:

A selection of festive and wildlife-themed images will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring your own inspiration, such as:

  • Sketches or drawings you’ve been working on
  • Photographs, books, or reference images

All tools and materials are included, just come ready to get inky and creative!

Skill Level: Suitable for beginners and returners alike. No previous printmaking experience is needed.

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with two handrails). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, from first-time participants to people with existing skills (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We also cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss. Please note that all our events are subject to us achieving minimum booking requirements, as we need to ensure they are commercially viable for our tutors - if we have to cancel an event, we will refund your ticket and give you as much notice as possible.
