Join us for a creative, hands-on day exploring the beautiful and expressive technique of drypoint printmaking. Perfect for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills, this workshop will guide you through the process of creating your own original prints using traditional intaglio methods.

You’ll learn how to design, etch, ink, and print your image using specialist tools and an etching press — taking home a series of unique prints at the end of the day. Come and get inky in a relaxed, supportive setting and unlock a new creative skill!

About the Tutor

Frances Whitfield graduated with a BA hons in illustration in 2011 and has been working as an artist since then. She currently runs the Folly Lane Print Workshop.

Frequently asked questions

What materials are provided?

All materials will be provided including inks, printing plates, paper, rollers, and drypoint tools. You may want to bring a sketchbook for taking notes, and you can buy one from our college shop if you want to.

What do I need to bring with me?

Make sure to bring some water, and dress appropriately for using college equipment (for example, no open-toed shoes and long hair tied back when using workshop equipment)

Where is it?

This course will take place in our Folly Lane Print Workshop.

When is it?

This course will take place on 8th August. The workshop will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. You may need to arrive earlier than 10am for registration. You will be emailed about this once you have booked onto the course.

How old do I have to be to attend?

This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 16. We recommend that attendees between the ages of 16 and 18 are accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also a paying participant.

Do I need to have prior printmaking experience?

This workshop will be suitable for beginners and people with some previous printmaking experience.

Will there be a lunch break?

Yes, there will be a 45 minute break for lunch. Unfortunately, our on-campus cafe won't be open during this time, but there is a corner shop just across the road from the campus where you can buy lunch, or you can bring your own. Light refreshments such as tea and coffee will be provided.
