Drypoint with chine colle

About the workshop: In this workshop, you will explore and develop your skills in intaglio drypoint printing.

Working with a Perspex plate, you will trace your own design and use specialised

intaglio tools to experiment applying a variety of mark-making techniques, exploring

both line and tone.

You will learn how to ink and print your plate using a traditional printing press. In addition,

you will incorporate colour into your prints through hand-colouring and by preparing and

applying pre-glued Japanese tissue paper using the chine-collé technique.

Who is the course for? If you love drawing (and even if you don’t) you will love this intaglio drypoint workshop. Suitable for all levels and as a follow on from previous printmaking courses.

What will you make?

You will make a mini test print, an a5 single colour print and additional prints where you experiment adding colour.

What will I need to bring?

All materials and equipment will be provided.

Participants can bring photographs / reference images (A5 max size for tracing.) but plenty of inspiration images will also be available.

Please wear old clothes as printing can get messy. Aprons will be provided.

You may want to bring a packed lunch and your own water bottle. Teas, coffees and biscuits are provided.

About the tutor

This workshop is led by Diane Cooper from Workshop 57. Diane is an experienced art

teacher with over 20 years of experience. Diane has a degree in Fine Art (painting) but

her love of printmaking has now mainly taken over!

Diane offers workshops across various venues and locations and in her home studio in

Sheffield. Diane is passionate about both art and teaching and loves passing on her

enthusiasm for all things print.
